A wedding dress can be described in 2 sizes - the dress label size and the brides typical size, also known as "street' size.
Because wedding dress label sizing varies so greatly, all dresses listed on Nearly Newlywed are the seller's street size.
We encourage all brides to search for either their exact size, or 1-2 sizes above their size since many wedding gowns can be altered to fit within this range.

Tips for Alterations

  • The waist is generally easy to take in.
  • Most dresses can be taken in 1-3 sizes.
  • Most unaltered dresses can be let out 1 size, depending on seam allowances and previous alterations.
  • Bust & waist are usually altered for best fit.
  • Length is very important. It's very difficult to extend the length, unless there is extra fabric tacked down.
  • Consider adding a corset to a dress you love but cant find in your size - discuss this with your seamstress before committing to a gown.
